What an extremely busy first week back!
The highlight of the week has been the Year 2 Skipping Festival that we attended on Thursday morning. It was great to be back out and the children were all very excited. I think for some the bus journey, and the fact that it was a double decker, was the most exciting thing! The children all did amazingly well. There were lots of individual certificates gained and some winning group skips (more individual pictures to follow next week). However the greatest achievement was that we were the overall winners of the day. Congratulations Year 2 Super Skippers!
This week we have continued our work linked to our topic 'African Adventure'. The children have been writing predictions about our new book 'Lila and the Secret of Rain'. They have also written some thought bubbles as Lila, trying hard to include our Year 2 end of year writing objectives. We have also been learning about the Big 5! Next week we will be looking out for some of these animals at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
In maths we have been solving multiplication problems and writing fact families for known multiplication facts. Over the next few weeks we will be recapping on various maths objectives making sure that children have a secure knowledge in preparation for their move to Key Stage 2.
The children are already getting very excited for our next adventure out of school on Tuesday. Our visit to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park should be a great day and the weather is looking good. The children have brought home a reminder letter today.
Have a lovely weekend.

Well we have reached the end of another half term. I can't believe that the next will be the last!
The children have continued to enjoy writing using the book 'Handa's Surprise' as a stimulus. This week we have written some recounts of her journey. The children have worked hard to include words with our Year 2 suffixes.
In maths we have done some work on capacity. We have been comparing units of measure. We have also continued to work on Times Tables.
In science we have been learning about the 3 basic needs of animals. The children made some survival guides for a pet of their choice.
In geography, as part of our topic, we have been finding out about a typical school day for a child in rural Africa. The children thought carefully about the similarities and differences to their school day.
Yesterday the children had an afternoon of sculpture. We used marshmallows and spaghetti to create our own abstract sculptures in the style of Eva Rothschild. They showed great determination and managed not to eat any of the resources!
Have a fabulous half term and enjoy any Jubilee Celebrations that you might have planned.

As always, this week has gone by so quickly.
We have completed our Statutory Assessments in maths this week. The children have all worked very hard and really tried their best. I am very proud of all of them!
In English we have continued our work using the book 'Handa's Surprise'. We have been sequencing the story. We used some drama to act out her journey and think about her feelings. Next week we will be writing a more detailed recount of her journey.
In our topic work we have been using an atlas to locate some African Countries. We have been reminding ourselves that Africa is a continent and what that means. We have also been locating the two oceans that surround this continent.
The children have enjoyed creating some Traditional African Patterns.
Enjoy your weekend!
