I can't believe that we are in October!
This week we have continued to use the story 'Katie in London' to inspire our writing. The children have been looking at clips and pictures of Buckingham Palace and thinking about what they would see, hear, feel and smell if they were there. They have use all those ideas to write a setting description of the Palace.
In maths we have been ordering numbers and objects. Next week we will be moving away from place value to begin our unit on addition and subtraction.
This week in our topic work we have been learning about evidence and how we know about the Great Fire of London. We have looked at snippets from the diaries of Samuel Pepys and John Evelyn. We have also been ordering the timeline of the fire and retelling the facts to a partner.
The children should all have brought home a note about boxes. These are for our Fire of London Workshop in a few weeks. Boxes can start being brought to school from Monday.
Have a wonderful weekend. Watch out for Storm Amy!

A lovely week in Cherry Tree Class! It has been lovely to see the children still being able to enjoy some sunny weather.
We have continued to find out about 'The Great Fire of London'. This week we have been learning about what caused the fire to spread so quickly and far. We have talked about the houses being made of wood, being close together and the dry spell London had had at that time. Next week we will be learning more about how we know about this famous fire.
In maths we have been looking at number lines with intervals of 10 and 1's. We have also been comparing numbers and objects using the vocabulary less than, greater than and equal to.
In English we have continued our London Theme with our book 'Katie in London'. We have been looking at settings and talking about what a setting is. We have then looked more closely at the setting of the 'River Thames' and written our own descriptions of this setting.
I was very pleased with the amount of reading the children have done at home over the past week. Thank you for your continued support in helping you child with this vital skill.
Have a wonderful weekend, hopefully enjoying some continued sunshine!

What a busy week!
We have continued our writing using the book 'Katie in London'. This week the children have been writing descriptions of the Lion and Katie the main characters. We have been making sure that we use good adjectives to make expanded noun phrases.
In maths we have been partitioning 2 digit numbers using arrow cards. We have been writing the expanded form of numbers too.
In our History this week we have started to look at what London was like at the time of the Great Fire. The children have sorted pictures of the present day and the past.
Please remember to listen to your child read at home as much as possible and record in their reading record book. A reminder too that homework needs to be completed and returned by Wednesday each week.
Have a wonderful weekend.
