The children have continued to enjoy our writing work based on the book 'The Smartest Giant in Town'.  This week they have been writing letters to the giant from the fox. We have been thinking about the important features of an informal letter and using them in our own writing.

In maths we have been looking at finding a third of shapes, objects and numbers.  The children are beginning to see the links with multiplication and division.

We are continuing to work on our quick recall of times tables facts for our 2's, 5's and 10's.  We have had some more children this week who have managed to achieve their certificates for all 3 and gain their special badge. Your help, at home, in learning these important facts is much appreciated.

In science the children have been making careful observations of their bulbs that they planted last week.  They have also been learning about the different parts of a flower.  Hopefully our bulbs will begin to grow before the Easter holidays.

This week in our topic work 'Yeadon Explorers' we have been looking at the Human and Physical features of Yeadon.  Next week we will be looking at how Yeadon has changed over the past 100 years.  As part of our topic we will be having a local walk to the Tarn in the last week of term.  Letters will be coming home soon!

Have a wonderful weekend.

Where has this week gone?

We have continued our Geography work this week as part of our 'Yeadon Explorers' topic.  The children have been learning about the four main compass points and using them to solve some orienteering clues.  The children enjoyed using the compass points and directional language to complete the challenge.

In maths we have continued our work on Fractions.  The children have been finding quarters of shapes, objects and numbers. I have been very impressed with the mental skills used to find quarters by halving and halving again.

In English we have continued to use the book 'The Smartest Giant in Town'.  The children have enjoyed writing as the Fox.  Next week we will be writing some letters to the Giant.

Just a reminder that all children in school received a World Book Day token last week which can be redeemed in certain shops for a FREE book until Sunday 27th March. There are 12 completely free books to choose from this year or alternatively the children can redeem their voucher against a full price book to knock £1 off the cost.

Have a great weekend.

This week we have started out new topic 'Yeadon Explorers'.  The children have been looking at maps and finding where Leeds and Yeadon are on them.  We have also been reminding ourselves of the 4 countries of the UK and the seas that surround it.    .

In English we have been reading the 'Smartest Giant in Town'.  The children have been exploring words with common suffixes and using them in their writing.

In maths we have started our unit of work on Fractions.  We have been exploring what fractions are and looking at finding a half of shapes, objects and numbers. The children have continued to work on their Times Tables and we have quite a few this week who have achieved their two, five or tens times tables.  Well done to those children and everyone else keep working on these important facts.

On Thursday we had World Book Day.  The children came dressed in some amazing outfits.  I was really impressed with the range of book characters that we had.  The children had a great day and enjoyed choosing some new books in the Book Swap.

Enjoy your weekend.
