A slightly shorter week for the children this week but we have managed to pack lots of things in.

In English we have using drama to act out some of the jobs that Florence Nightingale did at Scutari Hospital. This was in preparation for planning and writing a diary entry as her. We will be continuing with this work next week.

In maths we have been focusing on subtraction.  We have been subtracting a single digit from a multiple of 10.  The children have been using their knowledge of bonds to 10 to help them. We have also been subtracting a single digit from a 2 digit number crossing the tens.  We have been looking at different ways to work out the answers.

In our topic work we have been talking about why Florence Nightingale has more Memorials than Nellie Spindler.  The children have been designing their own Memorial for Nellie.  Next week we will be learning about another famous nurse, Mary Seacole.

The preparations for our Christmas Play have started... The children have shown real enthusiasm when learning the songs for our production.  I have been very impressed with their singing and how quickly they have learnt the songs. They should all have taken their lines for the play home tonight and this week's homework is to start practising these lines. Your support in helping them to learn their lines is much appreciated.

Enjoy your longer weekend!

A week of special days with Odd Sock Day (Anti-Bullying Day) and Non-Uniform day today for Children in Need.

In English we have continued our work on Instructions.  The children have been planning and writing a set of Instructions on how to make a 'Florence Nightingale Lamp'.

In maths we have been adding pairs of 2 digit numbers.  We have used base 10 and representation to help us with our working out.

In topic we have been comparing Nellie Spindler and Florence Nightingale and deciding who we think is the most significant.  The children have also been sketching Nellie Spindler portraits.

The children all looked very colourful in their own clothes today.  Thank you for all the donations which were added to our Pudsey Bear cut-out.

Have a wonderful weekend!

The children have had a very busy first week back.

In topic we have continued with our work on Florence Nightingale and Nellie Spindler.  We have been thinking about what the similarities and differences are between these two famous nurses.

In maths we have been adding by making 10.  The children have used their bonds to 10 knowledge to help them. We have also been finding 10 more and 10 less than numbers.  We have used our number squares to help us.

In English we have started our unit of work on Instructions.  The children have been thinking about what instructions are when we might need to use them. They followed some oral instructions to make their won Florence Nightingale Lamp.

Happy Weekend!

Mrs Moore
