Lime Tree Class - Year 1/2

INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

Welcome to our class page!

Year 1/2 Lime Tree is taught by Miss Atkinson with support from Mrs Bellwood and Mrs Hand.

As we are sure you can appreciate, the mornings are a very busy time and our main concern is to get the children into school safely and ready to start the day. If a message needs to be passed on to do with home-time arrangements or something that we need to know about for that day then please feel free to speak to the teacher at the door. If a longer or more confidential conversation is needed please use the class email or call the school office to arrange a phone call.

Our class email is lime@ruffordparkprimary.org.uk

Routines:

PE: PE lessons will be on Wednesday and Thursday each week. Children will need to wear PE kit to school on these days. Earrings should not be worn and long hair also needs to be tied up. If for any reason earrings can not be taken out then they should be covered with tape (this needs to be brought to school or put on in the morning at home).

Reading: Reading books need to be brought to school each day in book bags. They will be changed on a Tuesday. Children should, ideally, be reading at home to an adult daily. The minimum expectation is that children will read 3 times each week. Please remember to sign your child's reading record book so that we know they have read at home.

Children will also have the opportunity to choose a library book to take home each week. This can be changed every Friday

Homework:

For Year 1

Phonics activities will be sent home with your child every Friday. These will reflect the  sounds that have been taught during the week in school. We do not expect the phonics sheets to be returned to school, but please make sure you help your child to practise them at home.

In Autumn 2 children will start to be given Maths or English homework every Friday and this should be completed and returned by the following Thursday.

For Year 2:

Maths or English homework is given out every Friday and should be returned by the following Thursday. Spellings will also be sent home with your child.

  • For Year 2 the spellings will be the same as the weekly spellings that have been worked on in school.

We do not expect the spellings to be returned to school, but please make sure you help your child to practise them at home.

Uniform: The children have all come back to school looking super smart. Please remember to label clothing (especially jumpers and PE hoodies). The children do not need indoor shoes but must wear black shoes except on PE days.

Rucksacks: Rucksacks should not be brought into school. These bags take up a lot of space in the cloakroom and make it harder for children to hang their coats up and access them independently.

Water Bottles: Children need to bring a named water bottle to school each day filled with water only.

Coats: Children must have a coat in school each day. This should be waterproof!

Autumn Term 2024

In history, the children will be learning about famous nurses including Florence Nightingale. A workshop will take place in school on Tuesday 17th September which will bring the topic to life.

The first few weeks of the academic year will involve recapping reception and Year 1 objectives. In English we will be focusing on the text 'Owl Babies' before moving on to 'What the Ladybird Heard'. In maths we will be focusing on place value. For Year 1s this will involve recapping how to represent numbers within 10 and one more/one less. For Year 2s they will be recapping how to partition numbers into 10s and 1s.

Every morning, Year 1 will begin to learn some new phonics sounds and Year 2 will be learning new spelling rules.

The curriculum overview for the term can be seen below.
