This week has flown by!
The children have continued to use the story 'What the Ladybird Heard' to inspire their writing. This week we have been writing descriptions of the Ladybird. We have been thinking about using 'expanded noun phrases' to make our writing more descriptive and detailed.
In maths we have been ordering numbers on number lines using intervals of 10's and 1's. The children have also been estimating where numbers would be on a number line.
As part of our art topic 'Nature Sculptures' Mrs Hand took the children on a nature walk round school. The children collected a range of objects from nature. They will be using these next week to create a Nature Sculpture. There will be pictures to follow next week.
As part of our computing curriculum we teach the children about online safety. Please see the attached link for more information on how to keep your children safe online.

Please remember that homework will be sent home on a Friday and needs to be completed and returned by the following Wednesday. Thank you for your support with this.
Enjoy your weekend.

The children have worked very hard this week and seem more settled into the routines of Year 2.
The highlight of the week was definitely our visit from 'Florence Nightingale'. The children found out lots of facts about her life and why she wanted to become a nurse. Next week we will be using this knowledge gained to find out more about her life and why she is famous.
In English we have continued using the story of 'The Owl Babies'. The children have been pretending that they are owls in the wood to help them with their settings descriptions. They have been thinking about what they might see, hear, smell and feel. They wrote some wonderful descriptions and shared them with a partner.
In maths we have been partitioning 2 digit numbers. The children have used a range of resources to help them with this including arrow cards and base 10.
Next week we will be voting for our School Council representative. All children who are interested in being on the School Council need to bring their posters in by Monday.
Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the sunshine.

We have reached the end of our first full week back at school!
In English we have been using the story 'Owl Babies' to inspire our writing. We have been looking at some key vocabulary from the story and ordering it alphabetically. We have also been using dictionaries to find other words to complete our alphabet sheets. The children have also been exploring adjectives to describe the Owl Babies. Today they used these word banks to write their own descriptions of the owls. Next week we will be focusing on the story setting.
In maths we have started our unit of work on 'Place Value'. The children have been using a range of practical equipment to make numbers to 100. I have been very impressed with their understanding of this important concept.
The children have also begun the art unit for this term 'Nature Sculptures'. We have used modelling clay and a range of small tools to make animals and other things found in nature. The children have used their observational skills to copy pictures to create their mini models.
Today the children have all brought home their first homework of the year. There is an information sheet about homework glued on the inside cover. All homework should be completed and returned to school by Wednesday.
It was lovely to see so many of you on Wednesday after school. I hope you enjoyed coming in to see the classroom and apologies if I did not get the chance to speak to you.
Have a wonderful weekend!
