We have reached the end of our first full week back at school!
In English we have been using the story 'Owl Babies' to inspire our writing. We have been looking at some key vocabulary from the story and ordering it alphabetically. We have also been using dictionaries to find other words to complete our alphabet sheets. The children have also been exploring adjectives to describe the Owl Babies. Today they used these word banks to write their own descriptions of the owls. Next week we will be focusing on the story setting.
In maths we have started our unit of work on 'Place Value'. The children have been using a range of practical equipment to make numbers to 100. I have been very impressed with their understanding of this important concept.
The children have also begun the art unit for this term 'Nature Sculptures'. We have used modelling clay and a range of small tools to make animals and other things found in nature. The children have used their observational skills to copy pictures to create their mini models.
Today the children have all brought home their first homework of the year. There is an information sheet about homework glued on the inside cover. All homework should be completed and returned to school by Wednesday.
It was lovely to see so many of you on Wednesday after school. I hope you enjoyed coming in to see the classroom and apologies if I did not get the chance to speak to you.
Have a wonderful weekend!

It has been lovely to welcome back all the children this week!
All the children in Cherry Tree Class have made a fantastic start to the year. They have all come into school so sensibly with big smiles on their faces.
We have had a fairly gentle start to the year but have still managed to get started with some Maths and English and, of course, some getting to know each other activities.
Please look at the class web page for more details of routines and what we will be learning in the Autumn Term in Year 2.
I look forward to welcoming you into the classroom on Wednesday after school. It will be great to get to know some faces and for you to see your child's classroom.
All children have got their reading books and should all also have a school library book. Please support us in listening to your child read at home as much as possible (at least 3 times each week really is the minimum). This little and often approach really is the best way for them to improve this important skill.
Enjoy your weekend. I am sure you will have some very tired children!

Our final full week!
It has been a busy week making sure that all final objectives left to teach have been covered.
In English we have been writing 'Diamante' Poems about Africa. The children have done a fabulous job using all the knowledge that they have gained about this Amazing Continent.
In maths we have been solving lots of 'open ended' problems. The children have enjoyed working in pairs and on their own to find the solutions.
The children enjoyed an afternoon of 'Art' on Wednesday. They had the choice of working with pastels, water colours or just pencil sketching. They created some fabulous pieces of art work.
For one of our PE sessions this week the children chose to go on the Key Stage 2 Trim Trail. They had a wonderful time. I was very impressed with their climbing and monkey bar skills.
On Tuesday it was lovely to welcome so many parents and carers to our classroom to view the children's amazing homework project creations. Thank you for your support with this. I am sure you will agree it is a lovely way to bring our final topic to a close.
Have a wonderful weekend and I will see you all next week for our last 2 days.
