It has been so lovely to finally see some sunshine!

The highlight of this week has definitely been 'Sports Day'.  We had a wonderful morning on Thursday. The children all participated well and enjoyed the event. We had lots of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place stickers.

In maths we have been adding and subtracting multiples of 10.  The children have shown great understanding and have been using their mental skills well to solve the number sentences.

In English we have been looking at Invitations. We have thought about what information is needed on an invitation. Next week we will be writing our own invitations to Mama Panya's Pancake Feast.

The children have also been busy this week completing the Key Stage One entry for the Art Exhibition.  This is taking place this week end (see the newsletter for more information).

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine!

The highlight of this week has got to be the 'Skipping Festival' we attended on Wednesday.

The children had a fantastic time!  They all got a chance to skip during the morning, learning some new skills along the way. We got some bronze, silver and gold awards for individual skips and our skipping teams. The children should be very proud of their resilience, sportsmanship and overall behaviour at the event.

In English we have continued with our poetry unit.  The children have written diamante poems about Africa. Next week we are beginning a new story to inspire our writing.

In maths we have been recapping on subtraction.  We have focused on subtractions that cross the tens.  The children have been using exchanging to solve these number sentences.

In PE we have started to prepare for next week's Sports Day. Let's hope the weather is kind!

Have a wonderful weekend.

A shorter week for the children but as always a very busy one!

In English we have continued to use the story 'Lila and the Secret of Rain' to inspire our writing.  We have been writing 'Diamante' Poems.  These are poems written in the shape of a diamond using nouns, verbs and adjectives. The children have written some wonderful poems.  Next week we will be writing Africa inspired poems using the same structure.

In maths we have been partitioning numbers in different ways using tens and ones. The children have worked well in pairs using base 10 to find as many different ways as they can. We have also been recapping on subtraction where there is no crossing of the tens, trying hard to improve our mental skills.

We are continuing our topic 'African Adventure' this half term.  This week we have been comparing a typical school day for a child in Urban Kenya with our own school day.  We have listed similarities and differences.

Next week is our Skipping Festival and the children have been busy working on their skips. I am sure it will be a wonderful morning for all the children.

Have a wonderful weekend.
