As always, it has been a very busy week!

In English the children have continued to work using the book 'The Emperor of Absurdia'.We have been thinking more about Fantasy Settings and describing the setting in the story.  The children have also been using their 'sequencing' skills to sequence the story using pictures.  We did some oral retelling of the story in pairs using the pictures to help.  The children did a fantastic job and worked hard to include important vocabulary from the book.

In maths we are continuing to work on addition and  subtraction. We have been subtracting using number lines, jottings and our mental skills.  We have done some re-capping of Place Value and used this knowledge to add pairs of 2 digit numbers. We have used equipment, representation and partitioning to solve addition number sentences.

In topic we have been looking at the work of  'Wassily Kandinsky'.  We used bright colours to produce some work in his style. We are going to continue to look at his work next week and use colour mixing to recreate his famous 'Circle' painting.

Enjoy your weekend.

This week just seems to have flown by!

On Tuesday we had a Dance and Drama Workshop led by the Northern Art Factory.  This gave the children a chance to recap on their work about The Great Fire of London.  They all showed a real depth of knowledge about his topic and thoroughly enjoyed the session.

Our topic this half term is 'The Amazing Artists Time Machine'.  This week we have been learning about L.S. Lowry.  The children have enjoyed creating their own matchstick people.  I have been very impressed with their artist talents!

In English we have been looking at the book 'The Emperor of Absurdia'.  The children have enjoyed listening to this fantasy story and using expanded noun phrases to describe the characters.

In maths we have been focusing on addition and subtraction.  We have been learning different strategies to solve problems both written and mental. We have also been using equipment and drawing representations.

In PE the children will be doing dance and gymnastics this half term. It can get warm in the hall so wearing shorts under tracksuit bottoms might be useful this half term.

We have started to listen to the songs for our Christmas Performance.  I am sure the children will be very excited that they will get to have a proper Christmas performance this year.

Have a great weekend!

What a very busy last week of the half term it has been in Cherry Tree Class!

In English we have been using the information we have learnt about The Great Fire of London to make our own Information Posters about this event.  We have looked at key features of information writing and used in our own work.  Our posters have included a heading, sub-headings, paragraphs of information and pictures with labels.

We have finished off our topic by ordering famous people from different periods in chronological order. I was very impressed with how much the children had remembered about Florence Nightingale, who we learnt about last year.

In maths we have been focusing on addition.  We have been adding a single digit to 2 digit numbers.

In PE we have finished our first unit with Sam (the coach from Fiscal).  The children have really enjoyed using their problem solving and team skills to complete a range of Adventurous Activities.  Next half term we will be focusing on our gymnastics skills.

We had our School Council votes on Tuesday.  The children had produced some lovely posters about why they should be on the School Council.  The voting was very close but Max Little gained the most votes.  Congratulations to Max!

Sadly, this week we said 'Goodbye' to Mrs Peel. She left with lots of gifts and well wishes.

Please remember to keep reading with your children over the half term holidays.

Have a great holiday!
