It is hard to believe that we have almost reached the end of the first half term.
The children have made me very proud of them this week. They have had a few different people teaching them this week, due to my absence, and have worked incredibly hard and been really helpful.
They have continued with their diary writing using the first person. This week they have written diaries as Samuel Pepys. They have written about his experience of the Great Fire of London. They have used details from the diary he wrote to help them.
It has been so lovely this week to talk to all of you. It was good to hear how well all the children have settled back to school and how much they have all enjoyed our first topic.
Have a lovely weekend.

It has been, yet another, very busy week. The week's are going by too quickly!
The children had a very exciting day on Wednesday. We had our Great Fire of London Workshop which ended with us recreating the fire with our own houses.
The children spent the morning finding out more about this historic event and the reasons why the fire spread so far and so quickly. I was very impressed with the children's knowledge and the facts that were able to share with Annie, who was leading the day.
We then made our own houses and painted them so that they looked like they were made of wood. We even had a group making St. Paul's Cathedral which was destroyed in the fire.
The children really enjoyed the fire and it really helped them to have a better understanding of how the fire happened and the problems that caused it to last so long. We also talked about fire safety and how we protect our homes now.
The children all followed Annie's safety rules during the day, especially when the fire was lit. They were all really sensible and their fantastic behaviour and interest in the Great Fire of London made it a really enjoyable day.
Next week we have our Parent Meetings. Please make sure that you book your appointment time. I look forward to talking to you all.
Have a wonderful weekend.

October has arrived and the weather has certainly started to feel more Autumnal. Please remember to send your children to school each day with a waterproof coat and school jumper. We do have the windows open during the day which can make the room chilly at times.
We have continued to learn about The Great Fire of London this week. We have been looking at sources of evidence that can be used to tell us about the past. The children have enjoyed learning about Samuel Pepys and learning about why his diary was so important. They have drawn some portraits of him using their sketching skills.
We have been sequencing the story 'Katie in London' this week and next week the children will be writing diaries of her adventure. This links well with learning about Samuel Pepys's diary.
In maths we have been ordering numbers and using language and symbols to compare numbers, objects and representations.
Next week we have our Fire of London Workshop. We have an outdoor learning specialist coming in for the day. The children will be learning more about this historic event, constructing a London street and ending the day with a recreation of the fire. There will be lots of pictures to follow!
Please remember to listen to your child read as much as possible at home. Evidence shows that this regular reading and re-reading of books really helps to improve children's confidence and reading ability.
Enjoy your weekend.
