Hello,
This week we have continued learning about local history as part of our WW2 topic and learnt all about the Avro factory in Yeadon. In maths, we have been learning about fractions and in English we have been continuing our non-chronological reports.
Just a reminder we are heading into the final couple of weeks to complete a rationed recipe as part of our optional topic DT homework. Well done to everyone who has done one of these and been sending their pictures in!
Have a lovely weekend :)

Hello,
A slightly shorter but equally busy and exciting week in UKS2!
We are still on with our non-chronological reports about the role of women during WW2 in English and learning about fractions in maths.
Mrs Harris delivered another important assembly this week from the NSPCC and reminded children how to stay safe and speak out.
On Wednesday afternoon, the children in UKS2 opened their own and Rufford Park's very first "living museum" as part of our study of WW2. Children were encouraged to bring in any WW2 memorabilia that they have or to present information about their family members from this time and share how they were affected by the war.
We had a wide range of artefacts sent in including:
- Medals
- Letters/Diaries
- Photographs
- Military uniform items
- Ration books/Home Front memorabilia
- Lots of other interesting WW2 artefacts!
Have a look below at some of the amazing artefacts.
Mr Cooke also delivered a special presentation to the children in UKS2 on Thursday morning as his own living museum exhibit where he spoke to the children about his grandfather and read his first hand account of his experiences in the army during WW2!
Have a lovely long weekend.

Hello,
We kickstarted our week with a range of different remembrance themed activities on Monday. As part of our study of WW2 and particularly our focus on how it impacted on families in Yorkshire, we chose to mark Remembrance Day 2024 with a topic themed day. We began with a walk to Yeadon Town Hall to look at the memorial plaques of the fallen soldiers from our local area and then spent the rest of the day researching these young men using the Imperial War Museum website and making commemorative poppies and decorative pebbles with their details on. We also spent some time learning the poem “In Flanders Fields”.
On Tuesday, the children were encouraged to wear odd socks to school to mark Anti-Bullying Week. Mrs Harris delivered an assembly all about this and reminded children about always being kind and where to seek support if necessary.
The rest of the week we have been busy continuing with our "normal" lessons and working on our non-chronological reports in English and either multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 or learning about fractions depending on which group!
A reminder about something else exciting and topic themed happening in UKS2 next week now...
Living Museum for WW2
On Wednesday, 20 November, we are holding our Living Museums in the UKS2 classrooms as part of our WW2 topic. This is a great opportunity for the children to bring in any WW2 memorabilia that you/your family may have.
Here are some possible artefacts you may send in.
- Medals
- Letters/Diaries
- Photographs
- Military uniform items
- Ration books/Home Front memorabilia
- Any other WW2-era artefacts
If your child is taking part in this exciting venture, then for this weekend, your child’s homework task is to research a little about the item(s) and to record/present these facts - maybe a poster could be created? Or flashcards with information? Your child will be standing with their artefact and talking about it to the visiting children from Years 5 and 6.
And also to the parents from 3.20 to 3.50. You are welcome to come into the UKS2 classrooms at the end of school and see the artefacts on display and listen to the children talking about them.
We really hope that by looking at genuine artefacts from the era of 1939-1945, the children will gain an even better understanding of our key topic question: I wonder how WW2 affected families in Yorkshire.
And finally! We enjoyed wearing non-uniform on Friday in exchange for bringing in a £1 to raise money for Children in Need.
Ash Tree over and out!
Miss Bairstow :)
