Hello,

We have had another really busy week in UKS2.

In English we have been writing balanced arguments, in maths we have been learning about decimals, fractions and angles, in science we have been learning how to classify animals into groups based on their characteristics and in topic we learnt about the different terrain in Mesoamerica and goods the Maya people had to trade because of this.

Some children also went out on a cinema trip, Year 5 have been busy rehearsing for Bugsy and next week we have a trip to Benton Park for Year 5 to watch We Will Rock You and some Year 6 children have been invited to a transition basketball event!

Phew... I think that is everything!

Have a good weekend!

Hello,

The highlight of this week was definitely World Book Day on Thursday! Click the Facebook link below to see some of UKS2 dressed up for World Book Day! The children made lots of effort with their animal inspired costumes and brought in lots of linked books to recommend to others! Ash Tree also enjoyed taking part in the National Literacy Trust Premier League Takeover Quiz - The Great Big Footy & Booky Quiz 2025. Sadly, we didn't win any prizes but enjoyed combining our book and football knowledge to take part!

In English, we have been researching the fors and againsts linked to the use of palm oil in preparation for writing a balanced argument about this issue next week.

In Maths, Miss Bairstow's group have moved onto decimals (finally!) and Mrs Trotter's group have been learning about shape.

Have a good weekend!

Hi,
We have had a great 1st week back in Ash Tree class. We have started learning about our new topic "The Maya" and are looking forward to our visit from a Maya archaeologist in a few weeks time.
We have continued with our guided reading book "The Explorer" which is getting really exciting.
In maths, Miss Bairstow's group have finished fractions (finally!) and Mrs Trotter's group have been learning about fractions and percentages and have now moved onto shape.
In English, we have started learning about the features of balanced arguments and enjoyed using some sentence starters to "argue" over some debate questions.
Don't forget it is World Book Day on Thursday next week and the theme is "animals", please refer back to the letter sent out before half term for more information about this.
Have a great weekend!
Miss Bairstow
