Weekly Update 21.1.22

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Maple Tree Class Blog

Hi,

Everyone has enjoyed learning more about mountains this week. The children identified the different features of mountains and mountain ranges and are developing a wide technical vocabulary on the topic. As we begin to write adventure stories, it will be the perfect opportunity to include this vocabulary to describe the settings. I am hoping for some gripping stories next week.

In my maths group, we worked hard on converting fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions. A thorough understanding has been demonstrated by the high level of reasoning problems the children have been completing and an increasing resilience to work through problems independently.

The class started their art topic on North American artists and completed some excellent pencil drawings inspired by the portrait artist John Singer Sargent.

Enjoy the weekend

Weekly Update 14.1.22

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Maple Tree Class Blog

Hi,

A very busy and productive week. Maple Tree Class have produced some excellent descriptive writing thinking about 'showing and not telling' the reader. The children thought about how people show emotions rather than using the emotions word in their writing. Their excellent work will be displayed in the classroom.

My maths group has continued their work on decimals and have been learning to divide decimals with integers (whole numbers) and then using this fluency skill to solve problems.

In science, we investigated materials and their properties. The children learnt how important it is to know the properties of a material before deciding what the material can be used for.

Have a great weekend.

Weekly Update 7.1.22

Happy New Year!

Maple Tree Class quickly resumed their learning this week.

We started our new geography topic of Mountains and Rivers. Everyone has learned a lot of technical vocabulary associated with mountains and the children are beginning to write a mountains setting description in preparation for story writing. The children have also used atlases to locate key mountain ranges in Europe.

My maths group has started a new decimals maths topic. I have been really impressed with the level of understanding that the children have demonstrated.

A great start to 2022!

Have a lovely weekend

Mrs Trotter
