Hi,
In addition to all our normal lessons this week Year 6 had a special visit week from a maths teacher from Benton Park. The children were excited to learn about when and why algebra was invented and began to solve some problems using bar models. Both myself and the secondary school teacher were very impressed with how the children approached and tackled the problems and how they chose tricky numbers in order to challenge themselves.
I have explained to the class that PE will be on Thursday and Friday next week (for one week only) so PE kit will need to be worn on those days. On non-PE days (just a reminder) that black shoes should be worn.
Just a reminder that all children in school received a World Book Day token last week which can be redeemed in certain shops for a FREE book until Sunday 27th March. There are 12 completely free books to choose from this year or alternatively the children can redeem their voucher against a full price book to knock £1 off the cost.
The nearest places to redeem the vouchers this year are:
Sainsbury's
2.6 miles from LS19 7QR. 760 Harrogate Road, Bradford, West Yorkshire BD10 0QF
Sainsbury's
2.9 miles from LS19 7QR. 11 Bondgate, Otley, West Yorkshire LS21 3AB
The Bookshop on the Square
3.0 miles from LS19 7QR. 28 Market Place, Otley, West Yorkshire LS21 3AQ
Truman Books Ltd
3.3 miles from LS19 7QR. 95 Town Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS28 5HX
Vouchers can also be redeemed in any large Sainsbury's (not local stores), large Tesco (not express stores), Waterstones or WHSmith.
There are several other independent bookshops in Ilkley/Harrogate where you can redeem tokens too. You can use the search function here to find alternative participating retailers from further afield.
Enjoy the longer weekend (remember Monday is a training day)

Hi everyone,
Lots going on in school this week. World Book Day was a great success. The children showed great creativity when dressing up as book characters and enjoyed the opportunity to take a book home as part of the book swap. Maple Tree Class enjoyed designing their own book cover and solving a maths problem linked to World Book Day.
In English this week, the children began to plan their newspaper report about a mysterious creature that was spotted by CCTV on the school premises. I have asked them to think about a great headline for their report over the weekend. My maths group has also been learning about area and perimeter. Although the children found aspects of the work quite tricky at the start of the week they made great progress and showed a great level of understanding by the Friday. We will be calculating the area of triangles and finding out about volume next week.
Enjoy the weekend!

Hi,
An end to a busy half-term and week!
Year 6 have been completing a range of assessments and have shown great focus and resilience in their approach. It has been lovely to see the children's faces when they realise the progress they have made so far this year.
The week has been completed by a film afternoon and the children are looking forward to visiting the cake sale on their way home.
Enjoy the half-term break
