It has been a very busy first full week back at school.

In English we have started our work linked with the story ‘Katie in London’.  We have been creating word banks of words and phrases to describe the lion in the story.  Today the children used their word banks to write their own descriptions.

In maths we have been looking at ‘Place Value’.  The children have been using equipment to make 2 digit numbers thinking carefully about the tens and ones. This week’s homework is linked to this learning.

This week we started our topic 'Emergency 999'.  We used an atlas to find where London is and talked about what a capital city is.  We also thought about what 'History' is and did a chronological timeline.  Next week we will begin to thin more about London in the past and what caused the Great Fire of London.

Most children have made a really good start with their reading and have been reading lots at home.  Please remember to record all your child's reading in their read book.

Have a great weekend.

Welcome back!

The children have settled back really well. I was very impressed on Tuesday morning how sensibly and happily they all walked through the school doors.

This week we have been listening the the story 'How to Hide a Lion at School'.  The children have been writing questions to the Lion and writing where they might hide a lion if they brought one to school.

In maths we have been recapping numbers to 20 and writing numbers to 100.

The children all brought home their new reading book on Tuesday and I know lots of them have already been reading at home. Please remember that we do ask (as a minimum) that all children read at home at least 3 times each week and that all reading is recorded in their red book.  Thank you for your support with this.

The weather has been unusually hot and dry this week but the forecast is for rain next week.  Waterproof jackets will be needed!

Have a lovely weekend.  I think there will be some very tired children tonight!

Well we have reached the end of the year and what a fantastic year it has been!

The children should all be very proud of themselves and the great team they have been as 'Cherry Tree Class'.

On Tuesday we had an assembly from the School Library Service about the 'Summer Reading Challenge'.  I would really encourage you to sign your children up to this and keep them reading through the holidays.

Thank you all for your support this year and for all the lovely gifts that I have received. Both are very much appreciated!

I hope you all have a wonderful summer holiday.
