Weekly Update 9.3.24

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Maple Tree Class Blog

Hi,

A short but very productive half-term.

Year 6 have had an assessment focused week this week. The children have been brilliantly engaged and have made super progress since September. After the holidays, I will be sending home an 'Essential Maths Facts for Year 6' booklet. This can be kept at home and will contain all the maths facts that children need to know before the Standardised Assessment Tests in May.

In geography, the children enjoyed learning about the water cycle whilst watching the large amount of precipitation (snow) falling on Thursday. A perfect time to explain the water cycle and how we are all drinking the same water that the dinosaurs would have been drinking!

Mr Dring led an assembly on Internet Safety Day (Tuesday 7th February). In class, we focused on the different methods of internet communications and showed a short video to further explain the importance of keeping our personal information private and who the children need to speak to if they have any worries about any communications they may have. Below is a link for parents to help in having those important conversations about the internet.

Despite the snowy conditions, UKS2 had their intra-tournament with a rugby focus. Fingers crossed that the weather has improved before the Easter holidays so our next tournament can be outside.

I hope you have a lovely break.

See you on Tuesday 20th February (Teacher Training Day 19th February)

Weekly Update 2.2.24

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Maple Tree Class Blog

Hello,

This week Maple Tree Class have completed their non-chronological report writing. After some whole class feedback the children edited and improved their reports and produced some fabulous published pieces:

In maths, my group has been busy calculating percentages of amounts.

In UKS2, we also discussed Holocaust Memorial Day and have completed a piece of keyhole art that focuses on the theme of 'Fragility of Freedom'.

This collaborative work will shortly be on display in school.

Have a super weekend!

Weekly Update 26.1.24

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Maple Tree Class Blog

Hi,

The children have been busy completing their non-chronological report writing this week that they will be publishing next week. I look forward to posting some photos on the blog.

We started our art unit this week as the children enjoyed developing their landscape drawing skills and learning about the artist John Singer Sargent. Examples of this fabulous work also to follow...

In maths, my group have moved onto learning about percentages and Miss Bairstow's group have been working on their multiplication and division skills.

I am beginning to talk to the children more about the residential trip to Peat Rigg in April as this will arrive very quickly now. A meeting has also been arranged for parents on Tuesday 27th February at 3:30pm in Maple Tree Classroom. This will be an opportunity for myself and Miss Bairstow to tell you more about the trip and for parents/carers to ask any questions. There will also be some more information and a few letters to sign that will be sent out shortly.

Enjoy the weekend
