Weekly Update - Week 4 w/e 30.09.22
Mr Dring (p.dring) on: Cedar Tree Class
Hello.
What a busy week of learning for the children this week! We have been counting up to 1,000 in Year 3 and up to 10,000 in Year 4. In History, we have been learning about the first three Roman invasions of Britain, whilst in Science we have learnt what a scientist looks like. We have continued learning about European artists and art in Art lessons. How could I not mention our 2 trips to Murton Park? What an amazing experience for the children to be enlisted into the Roman army and 'fight' off a Celtic warrior attack. Links to the photos for both trips will be available on our class page soon. The children will use this experience to enhance their descriptive writing in their recounts of the trip.
I am looking forward to meeting with you in school to discuss your child at Parents' Evening soon, please sign up online or contact the office to book your timeslot. Unfortunately, we only get 10 minutes for each but if we need to meet again this can be rearranged for a future time.

Week 3 Weekly Update (w.e 23.09.22)
Mr Dring (p.dring) on: Cedar Tree Class
Hello.
Although a shorter week due to the bank holiday, the children have been very active in their learning this week. They have re-enacted scenes from the Romulus and Remus legend, participated in active outdoor times table practise and practised their team work skills during English Writing trying to put events into chronological order.
Next week, we will be going out on our Year 4 (Monday) Murton Park trip and Year 3 (Wednesday) Murton Park trip. Please ensure your child is ready at the classroom drop off doors at 8:10am ready for our early coach. We aim to have the children back in school around 4:15pm so please be ready to collect them from the same classroom drop off doors. We ask that your child brings a suitable bag that they can carry themselves and which will hold their packed lunch and water bottle. In case the weather changes, please also ensure that they have suitable clothing (warm and waterproof). We look forward to sharing our adventures in future blogs with you all.
I am really enjoying getting to know your child better as the weeks pass by and am amazed by their varied interests.

Weekly update (week 2) w.e 16.09.22

Hello.
Yet another great week in Cedar class. The children have been practising and developing their descriptive skills using expanded noun phrases, a wider range of conjunctions to include (although, when, even though, because, nor, for), direct speech using inverted commas and refreshing their cursive handwriting. In Maths we have been practising their 2, 5 and 10 times tables and working on place value up to either 100 or 1,000. I recommend the free White Rose Maths app to boost children's mental maths confidence, which I use with my own daughter too for 1 minute a day and she loves it. It covers all ages from EYFS to Year 6.
The children's communication and teamwork skills have been used very effectively during our Outdoor Adventurous P.E lessons and I know the Year 4s are enthusiastic about their first swimming lesson of the year with school. Please may I remind you that if your child wears earrings that they do not wear them on P.E days do avoid any injuries to themselves or their classmates.
If you haven't returned your child's Murton Park permissions letter, please do so promptly so that your child does not miss out on this inspirational opportunity to enrich their learning alongside their peers across the whole of LKS2.
Thank you for keeping me updated on a morning with anything I need to know about your child to ensure that we can support them as soon as possible with any issues or concerns they may have.
I wish you and your families a happy and safe extended weekend and we will see you on Tuesday.

Hello.
What a fantastic start to the year! It has been lovely getting to know the children this week. They have settled really well and I have been extremely impressed with their positive attitude and enthusiasm to their learning during this week of settling into our new classroom. The children have welcomed me every day with such happy conversations and beaming smiles despite any underlying start of term nerves.
We are very excited to share that we have been able to organise a visit to Murton Park this half term to support us with our new topic about the Ancient Roman era. Further details regarding the trip have already been be shared via a letter sent home with your child earlier this week.
It was lovely to meet so many grown ups this week either at our class door or in Wednesday's drop in sessions before and after school.
Looking forward to a fantastic year in Cedar Tree Class,
Mr Dring
