2024-25 Blog 1 Week 1 Autumn 1 w/e 06.09.24

Mr Dring (p.dring) on: Cedar Tree Class

Welcome to Cedar class

In our blog here you will find lot's of information about your child's learning during this academic year and also useful documents or updates throughout the year.

Firstly, some administrative notices. Please remember that our P.E days are Tuesdays and Fridays (Year 3) and Tuesdays (P.E) and Fridays (Swimming) Year 4s. Swimming will start from Friday 13th September - Mr Kyriacou will send you further information soon about swimming. It is school policy that no earrings are worn for any P.E or swimming activities so we recommend children don't come to school wearing them on PE day. Alternatively, your child must be able to either remove them themselves quickly prior to a P.E lessons or bring their own plasters/tape that they can apply themselves over their earrings. Thank you for your cooperation with this safety matter.

To ensure we all have a successful year please make sure you communicate with school (and myself) as soon as possible with anything that we can do to further support your child. You can do this via the school office in person or email (office@ruffordparkprimary.org.uk), with myself in person at drop off or pick up or via class email (cedar@ruffordparkprimary.org.uk). If you email class, once I have read your email you will always get a reply but please be aware these emails are not monitored outside of school hours nor during school teaching time (i.e lesson time) so there may be a slight delay. Anything urgent I would recommend contacting the school office in the first instance.

If your child has joined an afterschool club then these will start (usually) next week (Week 2) but you will get further information via the school office for these and the office is the best place to seek information about clubs rather than myself as class teacher because they will have the most up to date information.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible after school next Wednesday (11.09.24) for a 'Meet the Teacher' opportunity in our Cedar classroom - more details will be sent soon.

Secondly, our learning this week. I am so proud of every child this week who has shown me how proud they can be of their work, how hard they can work and how enthusiastic they can be about their learning. We have started our character descriptions in English, our place value in Maths, our grouping and classifying in Science and a lot of other fantastic learning opportunities.

Have a wonderful, safe and happy weekend.

Mr Dring

Cedar Week 7 Summer 2 w/e 19.07.24

Mr Dring (p.dring) on: Cedar Tree Class

Hello

What a fantastic year with far too many highlights to list here! I am so proud of every child's progress both in their learning and self-development - particularly how their confidence has grown. In September, most would not volunteer answers or speak in front of the whole class however now we have everyone wanting to perform the class poem. In addition, we have even had to set a time limit on their Ancient Egyptian home projects to make sure we can hear them all this week because they all have so much they want to share with us all! We look forward to sharing these with you if you are able to join us on Friday afternoon.

Our learning has continued this week, from putting the final touches to our papermache' art sculptures, using our reading skills to investigate a variety of positive mental health poetry, explored more magnet and friction related Science, consolidated our Maths skills and applied them to create our own bar charts and line graphs and we have celebrated our music skills in Singing Assembly too.

We were joined by the Rotary Club who very kindly donated more dictionaries to school and presented them to our Year 3 children - the Year 4 children will be bringing their dictionaries (donated last year) home this week.

Other highlights of our week are shown in the photos below.

I have had the great pleasure to teach your child this year and make memories with them for all of us to cherish - I wish them all well over Summer and into the new term in September. It is sad to 'let them go' (a song springs to mind here!) however I know they are well set to progress with their new teachers.

Thank you also for your kind words (and presents) this week - we have been overwhelmed.

We are of course here next week too (Monday and Tuesday) however there won't be the opportunity for a Friday blog.

Please have a fun, safe and restful break over Summer.

Mr Dring and the rest of our Cedar class team (Mrs Wakefield, Mr Fones, Miss Sanderson).

Cedar Week 6 Summer 2 w.e 12.07.24

Mr Dring (p.dring) on: Cedar Tree Class

Hello,

This week in Cedar class there are the following highlights to share:
  • In Maths the children have been completing lots of consolidation work.
  • In English the children have been reciting a new poem "Mister Moore".
  • In Art the children have been completing paper mache death masks and painting their clay Egyptian God models.
  • In Science the children have been completing experiments using magnets.
  • In P.E we continued our athletics topic by learning how to throw javelins.

Have a great weekend!

Cedar Week 5 Summer 2 w.e 05.07.24

Mr Dring (p.dring) on: Cedar Tree Class

Hello

An exciting week of learning again - the highlight this week was probably moving the classroom furniture for our Forces Science investigation exploring the effects of friction on a toy car. We investigated how the roughness of a surface can increase the amount of friction and thus prevent the car travelling very far.

In Maths we are concluding our units on pictograms, line graphs and translation on grids which the children have challenged themselves to complete. It's great to see them apply their skills independently that they have developed this year and see the great progress they have made. This also applies to their writing too where we have had great success as poets...who knew we are natural Kenning experts!

We have concluded all of our split year S.R.E lessons and I am very proud of how maturely the children have dealt with the content of the lessons and asked pertinent questions to ensure they are confident in their learning. Well done children.

The children have now completed their formal lessons learning about the Ancient Egyptians and we are preparing for them to present their homework projects to us in class over the next fortnight. You will have or will soon receive details, via the office, of our parent workshop/drop in sessions in LKS2 on Friday 19th July 3pm to 3:20pm so that you can also celebrate the success of every child in their Ancient Egyptian homework projects. Please arrive to enter via the classroom external doors (where you drop off/pick up) and we will let you in to join us. We look forward to seeing those of you who can join us.

Have a fabulous weekend.

Mr Dring

Cedar Week 4 Summer 2 w.e 28.06.24

Mr Dring (p.dring) on: Cedar Tree Class

Hello

A fun week of exploring a variety of poems including a focus on Kennings. The children's imaginations and enthusiasm has had us all amazed and laughing along because the nature of a Kenning is less formal than others styles of writing we draft in school.

We have continued in History and Geography to learn about Ancient Egyptians and modern Egypt and made comparisons this week between the two time periods. The children were surprised how much of ancient Egypt you can still see and visit today.

We are finishing our split year group S.R.E lessons this week so we can then go back to shared P.S.H.E lessons for the rest of term with shared vocabulary.

Have a safe and hopefully sunny weekend,

Mr Dring
