Hello,
Another busy half-term commenced this week.
I was pleased to receive some more photos of the delicious wartime recipes that some of you made over the half-term holidays. This challenge continues until the end of this half-term. Keep baking!
In class, the children have been busy researching about the role of women during World War Two in order to write their own information text. There have been many interesting facts learned which I'm sure the children would be happy to share with you. In maths, the focus in my group has been on fractions. Despite an uncertain start to the week, the children began to recall their previous learning and were feeling more confident by the end of the week.
Preparations began for an UKS2 festive gathering. Watch this space...
Enjoy Bonfire Night!

Hi,
Well, the first half-term is complete and it's been a busy one!
This week, the children have 'enjoyed' tasting seasonal vegetables and assessing their taste, texture and whether they would try them again! There were a range of comments and opinions.
The focus for homework in the holidays are times tables. Times tables booklets have been sent home, although times tables can be learnt in a variety of ways and children will benefit from adults or older siblings testing children's mental recall. The speed and accuracy with which children can recall these multiplication and division facts has a huge impact on mathematical success across a range of topics such as fractions, percentages and general problem solving so it would be great for some practising over the holidays.
Also, don't forget the wartime recipe challenge. If you have the opportunity to make some of these great recipes then please email photos of the completed dishes to the class email account maple@ruffordparkprimary.org.uk . Happy cooking!

Hi,
Maple Tree Class have been busy completing their evacuee diaries this week and beginning to plan their next piece of writing. The range of vocabulary used has been impressive and the children have enjoyed getting into the role of an evacuee. I will share some of the work on the blog next week. In maths, the children have been consolidating their adding and subtracting knowledge by using their problem solving and reasoning skills.
Year 6 School Council elections will take place on Monday. If your child wishes to apply for the role of Chairperson or Communications Secretary they need to design a poster that explains why they think they will be good at their chosen role. Each child that applies, will present to the class before voting takes place. Good luck everyone!
As you can see from the photos, the class enjoyed some great tag rugby games in the beautiful autumnal sunshine. The children's skill levels have improved greatly and it was lovely to see everyone having a super time.
It was good to speak to parents this week and let everyone know how well the children have settled into Maple Tree Class. Thank you to parents who have been emailing in photos of the super wartime recipes that your children have been making at home. This homework continues until December so there is still lots of time to try to make and enjoy the wartime diet.
I hope you can all enjoy the gorgeous autumnal sunshine this weekend.
