Miss Bairstow (d.bairstow) on: Maple Tree Class Blog

Hi,

We have had a busy week with lots of members of Ash Tree representing the school at various sporting events this week! Well done to everyone who participated in these events!

In English, we have started to write some onomatopoeia poetry linked to Armley Mills.

In maths, Miss Bairstow's group have been learning about methods for multiplication and division and finding multiples. Mrs Trotter's group have been learning about fractions.

See you next week!

Miss Bairstow :)

Hi,

We have had another good week in Ash Tree.

I have been so impressed with the care the children have taken when writing out their Victorian diary entries. We are looking forward to displaying some of these on our corridor display for everyone to see - look out for them at Parents' Evening!

In maths, Miss Bairstow's group have been continuing their work on addition and subtraction whilst Mrs Trotter's group have been working on BIDMAS.

We also had creative PSHE and Topic lessons this week and worked well both in pairs and independently to create posters about how to be assertive in PSHE and about life in Victorian Britain in History.

Have a look at some of PSHE posters below:

Have a great long weekend!

Hi,

This week we have been busy writing our Victorian diary entries based on our trip to Armley Mills. I have been so impressed with the quality of the writing so far!

In maths, Miss Bairstow's group have moved on to addition and subtraction and Mrs Trotter's group have been working on all four of the operations.

UKS2 are also collecting cardboard tubes for DT – if you could save any you have (kitchen roll/wrapping paper/poster delivery tubes only please – we can’t accept toilet roll tubes) and bring them in for us ASAP we would very much appreciate it!

Have a good weekend!

Hi,

In English this week we have started to plan a diary entry from the perspective of a Victorian school child. We gathered lots of ideas during our visit to Armley Mills last week and are excited to write these up next week.

See the highlights from our trip here.

In maths, Miss Bairstow's group have been continuing to work on place value by ordering and comparing 6 digit numbers and rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. Mrs Trotter's group have been learning about square and cube numbers.

UKS2 are also collecting cardboard tubes for DT – if you could save any you have (kitchen roll/wrapping paper/poster delivery tubes only please – we can’t accept toilet roll tubes) and bring them in for us ASAP we would very much appreciate it!

Have a great weekend!

Weekly Update 22.9.23

Hi,

The highlight of our week has definitely been our trip to Armley Mills today! We spent the day as Victorian children and learnt what it would have been like to go to school and work in a mill in the Victorian era. Pictures to follow next week!

We have done a lot of work leading up to this trip and enjoyed learning generally about the Victorians and Queen Victoria herself through reading comprehensions in English this week as we have had a reading focused week. I have been really impressed with how enthusiastic and engaged the children have been with our topic so far.

We are looking forward to the rest of the term where we will be continuing to learn about the Victorian era and specifically focusing on what Yeadon and our local area was like during this time period.

Have a great weekend!

Miss Bairstow
