Hi,
We have had a lovely week and end to a busy half term in Ash Tree.
On Monday evening, myself and Mr Spence took a group of Y5's from both Ash and Oak to St Mary's Menston to participate in a netball come and try event. We were so impressed with how quickly the children developed their skills as they had played very little netball beforehand! They finished the event by playing some competitive matches against other schools and even won one of their games so a big well done to all children who took part in this event. We are looking forward to having you on the Y6 netball team from September!
On Tuesday, UKS2 received a visit from theatre company "Tempest Fugit" and watched/participated in the retelling of the Ancient Greek myth, "Perseus and Medusa". After the half term, we will be writing our own versions of this myth.
Finally, we enjoyed getting into the jubilee spirit by making paper chains, designing bunting, learning all about the Royal family tree and of course dressing in red, white and blue on Friday!
I hope you all have a wonderful half term and enjoy the extra bank holiday with your families and friends! See you in a week!

Hi,
It has been an incredibly busy week for the whole of UKS2 with several sporting events taking place. Children in Ash Tree class represented school at a football tournament in York, a triathlon at John Smeaton and a "This Girl Can" event at Leeds Beckett University. It has been lovely to hear such positive feedback from the members of staff who attended these events about the children's enthusiasm and behaviour.
Back in the classroom, we have been writing persuasive leaflets with Year 6 writing about Peat Rigg and Year 5 writing about Yeadon Tarn. We are excited to write these up in neat next week and hopefully share some with you here!
Have a lovely weekend!

Hi,
I would like to start this week by saying a massive well done to all of our Y6's for completing their SATs tests this week! They have worked so hard and should be incredibly proud of themselves as we are very proud of them.
Year 5 have been completing lots of topic and science based work this week and also deserve a big well done for adjusting to a new routine for most of the week whilst Year 6 have been busy!
We hope you all have a well-deserved rest this weekend!

Hi,
We have had a really productive week in UKS2 and it has been great to see the excellent progress the children have made over the course of this year. We have a busy few weeks ahead of us with lots going on in school.
Next week is SATs week for Year 6 pupils. Please make sure your child is in school on time and remind them they are more than welcome to come in early for SATs breakfast club at 8.25am in the hall.
We have started learning about Ancient Greece (our new topic) this week too and introduced our new class guided reading text, 'Who Let the Gods Out' which the children have really enjoyed discussing.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Hi,
It has been an incredibly busy week in school with the highlight being the Scholastic Book Fair! It was so lovely to see so many children from across school visiting the fair before and after school with their adults and enjoying browsing and selecting the exciting range of books. I hope everyone enjoys their new reads and I can't wait to hear all about them. The book fair was a huge success and raised the highest total of any Rufford Park book fair EVER! This is fantastic news as we are able to claim back 60% of the total spend from Scholastic to invest in exciting new books for school so thank you very much for supporting this. I would also like to say thank you to the amazing Year 6 "takeover team" who have been involved in the organising the run up to the book fair and who took the lead this week to make sure everything ran smoothly - I do not think the fair would have been as much of a success without Harley, Freya, Zeke, Eva, Daniel, Henry, Ella, Evie, Lily, Frankie, Jordan, Finlay, Laila, Adam, and Lexie's hard work.
Part of the Y6 team's role was to promote the book fair to other children across school and gather interest by running a competition. They chose to hold a "Book in a Box" competition which was also a great success. The entries from across school were of an incredible standard and we really enjoyed looking at them all and of course - voting! We also had winner in our class as Tilly's Matilda entry was voted for as the UKS2 winner!
We are also excited to be able to share with you some of the highlights of last week's Y6 residential to Peat Rigg. We all had a fabulous time and I'm sure both children and adults will enjoy looking at some of the exciting and adventurous things we got up to! You can find the photo galleries using the link below:

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend and I will see you all on Tuesday.
