Weekly Update-21/11/24

Hello everyone,

This week, in our writing, we have been focusing on Winter themed similes, sentences with rhyming words in and the use of alliteration. the children have really enjoyed it and come up with some tremendous ideas. they are now very eager to begin planning and rafting their poems.

In maths, we have continued our work on multiplication and division. We have focused on fluency, reasoning and problem solving involving the 3, 6 and 9x tables. It's been lovely to see the children increasing in confidence and this has really been noticed with children who have progressed onto the next level for their times table challenge sheets and with children achieving their highest MTC scores to date.

In history, we have focused on the fall and decline of Roman Britain, which the children found really interesting and it prompted some excellent discussions.

Take care,

Mr Kyriacou :)

Hello everyone,

This week, in English, we have started our unit of work on poetry. We have been looking at multiple Christmas themed poems and focusing on identifying things from the poems that apply to the different senses. The children have really enjoyed it and have come up with some great ideas.

In maths, we have started our unit of work on multiplication and division, with the focus being on fluency for the 3 and 6x tables, and then moving onto reasoning and problem solving.

In science, as part of our unit on States of Matter, the children were practising and testing out different equipment which they will be using as part of their experiment next week.

In computing, as part of our animation unit, the children made their own stop motion animations using whiteboards, pens and iPads. They learnt about onion skinning as well, and how useful it is when creating a stop motion animation. Here is an example of one below.

Take care,

Weekly Update-8/11/24

Hello everyone,

This week, we have continued reading our class novel, The Thieves of Ostia, which the children are really enjoying, and more clues have been revealed in relation to the crimes that have been committed throughout the story so far and who the culprit might be.

In maths, we have been focusing on on area this week. The children have made super progress throughout the week and have been able to confidently demonstrate their understanding of what area is, how to calculate it, compare areas of different shapes and and solve word problems involving it.

In our writing, the children have been working on their biographies of Boudicca. They finished their draft pieces, edited their work and then published them. They’ve done a great job and their pieces have been very enjoyable to read.

In PSHE, our lesson linked in with our Mind Mate assembly, which was all about having healthy relationships. As a class, we discussed which positive attributes contribute towards having healthy relationships with people around us and then the children created their own posters about themselves and which positive attributes they feel that they have that helps them to develop healthy relationships.

We have also started practising our Christmas performance songs, which the children really enjoyed.

Take care,

Mr Kyriacou :)
