Hello everyone,
This week, in our writing, the children published their newspaper reports, which were all about the Viking attack at Lindisfarne. They've done a great job with them and even had the opportunity to make their newspapers look old.
We have now moved onto our poetry unit of work, which will be focusing on the narrative poem, Please Mrs Butler. The children have really enjoyed performing it and looking at the literacy devices used within the poem.
In maths, we have been focusing on the 11 and 12x tables, working on fluency, reasoning and problem solving. The children have been working really hard - we have had great discussions about different ways and the necessary steps to solve trickier problems. The children have also been creating their own word problems based on specific calculations and have been encouraged to use good mathematical language within those and it's also lovely to see that they are getting more confident with giving good mathematical reasoning to back up their opinions about a particular statement or statements that have been made.
In PSHE, we have continued our unit of work on Valuing Differences, and the focus of this week's lesson was stereotypes. The children learnt what stereotyping is; we looked at various different examples of stereotypes and had a really stimulating discussion about why it is important not to stereotype and the impact that can have.
The children have also created their own Viking board game, based on the game that they played at Murton Park. They all did a great job with their designs and then had a go playing against each other.
Take care,
Mr Kyriacou :)

Hello everyone,
This week, we have been busy with assessments and the children have been working really hard throughout all of those.
In writing, we have completed our draft newspaper reports about the Viking attack at Lindisfarne and the children have revised and edited those with purple pens. These pieces will be published next week.
In science, our lesson this week focused on comparing different diets. We looked at a range of different diets ranging from omnivorous to vegan. We had lots of stimulating discussions revolving around the different diets, what the differences are, the nutritional value from the food that is consumed in those diets and talked about different reasons why people switch to these diets.
We have also been busy continuing to practise for our carol concert and it's amazing how much improvement has been made in such a short space of time.
Take care,
Mr Kyriacou :)

Hello everyone,
This week, in our writing, we have started to work on writing our newspaper reports all about the Viking attack at Lindisfarne. So far, the children have produced some really exciting pieces which include lots of the features they are required to include.
In our reading, we have continued reading our class novel (Thorfinn the Nicest Viking) which the children have really been enjoying. We have also focused on the poem Firework Night by Enid Blyton and working on our inference skills.
In maths, we have been focusing on the 7x tables - focusing on fluency, reasoning and problem solving. Whilst certain part of this have been a challenge for some children, they have been working really hard to overcome the challenges, particularly with problem solving.
As part of our Christmas performance practise, we have also been practising our songs along with some body percussion to get our bodies warmed up. The children really enjoyed it and gave it their best.
In DT, our unit of work revolves around designing a kite. So far, we have focused on the names of different parts of a kite and what those different sections do. This week, we are focusing on different kite shapes and designs and the children have learnt about the advantages of the different types of kites. The children also used a variety of different materials to draw the shapes of the different kites and rated which material worked the best for them.
Take care,
Mr Kyriacou :)
