Weekly Update-22/10/26

Hello everyone,
It’s been a busy final week. First, it was lovely to see all of the parents across both evenings, so thank you for making the time to come.
In maths, we are continuing with addition and subtraction, and the children have all been working really hard this week with focusing on using the inverse operation to check their addition or subtraction calculations. It’s been great to see the method working well to prove the children right with their original calculation or to prove them wrong and for them to go back and identify the mistake that they have made and to correct it.
In reading, we have done lots of comprehension work for the last three chapters of Goodnight Mister Tom, with a big focus on vocabulary, retrieval and inference skills. The children have all been working so hard and showing how much more confident they are with using these skills (especially with a trickier text) as each week passes by. We have also just finished reading the eleventh chapter and the children are really enjoying the story. It is always creating fantastic and stimulating class discussions.
The children also took part in a music workshop this week, which was focused around story telling through singing and music. The children were so engaged and took part in lots of different activities, which included creating their own song that told a story based on the type of music that they could hear.
We finished the week off by creating some lovely Halloween themed art work. The children created a painted sunset background, with a haunted house silhouette in the foreground along with a few bats flying around above. They really enjoyed this and it was a lovely way to finish the week off.
I hope you all have a lovely break.
Take care,
Mr Kyriacou
