A Wonderful Week in Lime Tree Class
What a busy and exciting week we have had in Lime Tree Class!
This week, we have started exploring our new class book, What the Ladybird Heard. We have been enjoying getting to know the characters and have begun thinking carefully about how we can describe them using interesting adjectives and descriptive language.
By the end of the week, we put our learning into practice by writing our very own descriptions of the ladybird. We thought carefully about what she looks like and used descriptive words to help bring our writing to life. We are very proud of the descriptions we have created!
In Science, we have been learning all about fish. We have been finding out about their features and thinking about what makes a fish a fish.
In History, we have continued our topic on famous nurses, learning more about Nellie Spindler and Florence Nightingale. This week, we have been developing our understanding of the time period in which they lived by finding out who was monarch during their lifetimes. We have enjoyed placing historical people and events on a timeline and thinking about what life was like during this period.
In Maths, we have begun learning how to compare numbers using the correct mathematical language. We have been learning to identify when a number is greater than, less than or equal to another number and using the correct symbols, <, > and =. We have also been using cubes to represent numbers, which has helped us to compare different quantities and explain our thinking.

We have had another busy and enjoyable week in Lime Tree Class, with lots of exciting learning taking place.
This week in English, we have continued looking at the story Owl Babies. The children wrote descriptions of the forest, thinking carefully about what they could see, hear and feel. They used some lovely descriptive language in their writing.
In Art, we have been doing some observational drawing. The children looked carefully at things we found in nature, including leaves, pinecones and feathers. They focused on the shapes, patterns and details they could see.
In Science, we have continued learning about our topic this half term, mammals. This week, we focused on birds and learned about different species. The children also went on a walk to see how many different types of birds they could spot.
In History, we continued learning about Florence Nightingale and Nellie Spindler. We learned about the Crimean War and how Florence helped care for injured soldiers. We also learned about Nellie Spindler and her work as a nurse during the First World War. The children then wrote a sentence to describe each of these important nurses.
It has been a great week of learning in Lime Tree Class, and we are very proud of how hard the children have worked.

We have had such a lovely week in Lime Tree Class!
At the beginning of the week, we started our new English topic- Owl Babies. We explored the book together, collecting words to describe their appearance, and then at the end of the week we have used these words to write a description of an owl baby in our books.
In maths we have been continuing our topic of place value, both the year 1s and 2s have been using practical resources to help with their maths work. Year 1 have been looking at ordering number alongside writing the names of numbers and year 2 have begun looking at tens and ones.
This week we also had our first science lessons. where the children took part in a minibeast hunt around the school and then learned what a mammal is. To end the lesson the children created their own mammal wheel.
This week we also had our first PE lesson on our topic for this half term, Look, Run, Avoid.
We have also started our topic of Famous Nurses in history. The children did some fact finding about famous nurses before we had a discussion all about what a nurse is and which famous nurses we will be focusing on, Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole and Nellie Spindler.

We have had a lovely first week in Lime Tree Class!
It has been wonderful to see everyone settling in, making friends, and getting back into a routine.
This week, we have created our own self-portraits, which are now proudly displayed in the cloakroom. We have also completed our ‘All About Me’ sheets, sharing our favourite things and learning more about each other.
During English this week we have discussed how we can make our classroom a nice place. The children shared their ideas and then wrote some sentences about how we can look after our classroom and each other.
During storytime after break, we enjoyed one of my favourite stories, Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy by Lynley Dodd. The children loved joining in with the story and meeting Hairy Maclary and his friends.
What a fantastic first week we have had! Well done, Lime Tree Class!
A little reminder: Our PE days have now changed. PE will take place on Thursdays and Fridays each week.
