Weekly Update - 19.9.25

Posted: Sep 19, 2025 by: Miss Bairstow (d.bairstow) on: Maple Tree Class Blog

Hello,

I can't believe we already at the end of Week 3! By next week we will already be halfway through the first half term!

This week we have been writing from the perspective of Jim Jarvis (the main character from our Guided Reading text, Street Child) in our English lessons. In maths, Mrs Trotter's group have been continuing to work on place value whilst my group have started to work on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

We completed another topic lesson all about the divide between rich and poor in Victorian Britain as part of our preparation for our trip to Armley Mills next week. Additional info about this below:

Y6 will be going to Armley Mills on Friday 26th September. All children will come to school at the normal time and will return to school for the end of the school day.

Armley Mills encourage all children to come dressed as Victorians. The visit is more authentic if the children are in costume. Pinafores and waistcoats may be provided by Armley Mills; however, children are requested to come to school wearing the following on the day of the visit:

Boys:  dark trousers (no jeans), white shirt with a collar and a waistcoat if they have one.

Girls:  dark skirt, white top, long socks or dark tights and a pinafore if they have one.  Hair tied back with ribbons or in plaits/ringlets.

In keeping with the day, dark school shoes are also recommended.

Children will need to bring a packed lunch (please do not bring food containing nuts as do have children with severe allergies, and no glass bottles). If you are entitled to free school meals and would like school to provide a packed lunch, please contact the school office.

Have a great weekend.

Miss Bairstow
