A fantastic start for these children!

It’s the children’s final term in Year 5 – and already we are starting to look forward to life in Y6. It is hoped that children are able to organise themselves (and look after their own stuff!) by the time they arrive in Y6, so if you feel this is an area of difficulty for your child, now is the time to start encouraging good habits: letting them pack their school bag the night before, thinking ahead about what they’ll need, knowing when it is a PE day and keeping a track of where important things like water bottles, hoodies, coats and pencil cases are. Reminders are obviously useful at times, but try not to do it all for your child – they will need to learn to do these things by themselves. It might be painful to start with, but it does get better! :)

It has been very calming to start the day listening to instrumental tracks this week. The theme tune by Vangelis for Chariots of Fire seemed to go down the best. (Especially when Mr Cooke came into the classroom miming a slow motion sprint!)

Maths has been a mixture of angles work (this week’s homework) and consolidating methods for multiplication and division. Once again, it’s the lack of times tables knowledge that lets some children down for each of these concepts, but it was very pleasing to see that by Friday morning, almost every child knew how to use the short division method accurately, some children even representing remainders as a fraction.

Topic has been learning about the legacy the Ancient Greeks have left; PE has been Sports’ Day training and Sports Day itself; Science work this term is all about Light and we are practising like mad for the Y5 Ukulele Gig, which will be on June 26th at 3.30pm. It will form an exciting part of Rufford ParkLife and we really hope you can all come along and watch our Y5 musicians shine.

Have a great weekend,

Yours,

Mrs Adrienne Amos
