Hello,
After a particularly exciting week for Year 6 on their residential trip to Peat Rigg, we reunited as a class. The children in Year 5 have been sharing their excitement about the forthcoming performance of the Wizard of Oz. I continue to be impressed with the children's excitement and dedication to this performance and I am equally excited to watch them in a couple of weeks time.
In class, the children have been busy planning their adventure stories featuring a mountain setting and a yeti! Watch this space....
In maths, my group has been focusing on decimals.

We are already planning next year's trip for the current Year 5 - the dates are Wednesday 31st March - Friday 2nd April 2027. Further information about the trip will be sent to parents/carers in the Summer Term.

Hi,
A productive start to the half-term.
Ash Tree Class have been busy gathering exciting vocabulary to write a character description about a Yeti! Watch this space.....
Excitement is mounting for the Year 6 residential trip to Peat Rigg. Miss Bairstow and I had a short meeting to answer any last minute questions. Just a reminder that if your child requires any medication that is not required during the school day then a medical form will need to be completed (this include travel sickness pills). On Wednesday, children should arrive at the normal time but come to the hall using the side doors. On Friday, we should return around the time of the end of the school day. If we are running very late, the office will send a text message to parents. Please email the class email address or contact the office if you have any questions.
The Year 5 children are equally excited about their forthcoming production of the Wizard of Oz. It has been lovely to see the engagement in learning lines and participation in rehearsals.

Hello,
Ash Tree Class completed a few assessments in reading and maths this week. The children focused well and it was pleasing to see the progress being made when children are completing tasks independently.
The non-chronological reports on various twin towns with Leeds were also published this week. The reports have enabled children to gain geographical knowledge on both a local and wider geographical basis. Please ask your children to tell you something about their chosen twin town.
It was also lovely to see the engagement in the homework task on landmarks across the world. These are currently displayed in the classroom and the children who completed slide shows also had the opportunity to share these with the class. A bumper 5 house points were awarded to the children who completed this task - well done!
We have swapped the torrential rain for snow today with the hope of sun tomorrow. Make the most of it!

Hello,
Maths has been full of fractions this week. My maths group made such accelerated progress that we managed to complete two lessons in one session!
In English, we completed our non-chronological report writing and will publish these next week.
UKS2 concluded the week with a morning of art whilst 20 children from from UKS2 attend the Young Voices Choir concert in Manchester.
Hopefully the rain will come to an end soon.

Hi,
A focus on arithmetic skills in my maths group this week. Short division has been mastered. A secure times table knowledge is essential for this an so many aspects of maths. Children need to continue to practice the times tables to ensure a quick recall. We return to fractions work next week where these quick recall skills are required.
In English, the children have been using bullet points and brackets for additional information in their non-chronological report writing which will be ready to publish next week.
Our Geography lesson was on identifying features of Yorkshire and the Humber. The children enjoyed using atlases to find some of these features.
We also spent time creating a piece of art work on the theme of the Bridging Generations. This work will be displayed in school, to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day (27th January) – we also enjoyed seeing this event mentioned on the BBC’s Newsround programme. We were really touched by the sensitive and mature approach the children had towards this subject.
The half-term is whizzing by...
