Hello everyone,
This week, in our reading, we have continued to read our class novel (Stig of the Dump) and have focused on the sixth chapter of the book called Skinned and Buried. The children are really enjoying the book so far and we’ve had lots of lovely class discussions about it. We have also just completed our story time book called The Shop of Impossible Ice Creams by Shane Hegarty which the children absolutely loved and found very funny. The class unanimously said that they would definitely recommend the book to other children in LKS2.
In maths, we have started our unit of work on shape, focusing on understanding what angles are, identifying a range of angles, focusing on the properties of triangles and quadrilaterals and understanding what parallel and perpendicular lines are and identifying them in different shapes.
In history, we are continuing our work on the Stone age to Iron Age. This week, we have focused on identifying what tools, food and homes were like in the Palaeolithic and Mesolithic periods of the Stone Age, how they changed and developed between the two periods and what impact that had on the lives of those early humans. The children really enjoyed the lesson and contributed their ideas well throughout the lesson.
In computing, the children have started their new unit of work on data branching databases. Their first lesson focused on the children investigating yes or no questions with yes or no answers to categorise different objects, creating their own yes or no questions with yes or no answers to categorise different objects, They also had to create yes or no question that could separate a whole group of objects into two separate categories that would be split due to one different attribute.
Take care,
Mr Kyriacou
