This week, we have fully immersed ourselves in our Romans topic and the children have shown great enthusiasm throughout. In English, we created 'triaramas', Roman-themed jigsaws, and gladiators as an exciting introduction to the descriptive writing we will be focusing on next week. We also explored images of gladiators and worked together to create a class word bank. The children thoroughly enjoyed this activity and contributed a fantastic range of imaginative vocabulary and ideas.
In History, we learned about life in Britain before the Roman invasion. This sparked lots of curiosity and excitement, particularly as we look forward to our upcoming trip in a few weeks' time.
In Maths, Year 3 have been exploring number lines to 1,000, while Year 4 have been working with number lines to 10,000, developing their understanding of place value and number sequences.
The children have continued to enjoy our PE unit, Look, Run, Avoid, and have demonstrated excellent teamwork, cooperation, and sportsmanship during lessons.
Year 4 had a very successful first swimming lesson this week. Thank you for ensuring that your child had the correct kit. As a reminder, the coach provided by the local authority departs from school promptly at 9:00am. Please ensure your child arrives by 8:45am every Wednesday morning so that they do not miss their swimming lesson.

We have had another great week in Cedar Class!
I have been incredibly impressed with how well the children have represented our school this week. They showed excellent behaviour, resilience and confidence, especially when faced with OFSTED being in school. The children remained focused in their lessons, answered questions thoughtfully and demonstrated just how much they are learning every day. Well done, Cedar Class!
A reminder that Year 4 swimming begins next week. Swimming letters were sent home yesterday, both electronically and in paper form. If you require another copy, please contact the school office as soon as possible so that all necessary information can be shared with the leisure centre before our first session on Wednesday.
In English, we have been revisiting and strengthening key skills from previous year groups to ensure everyone feels confident and ready for the exciting writing challenges ahead. Next week, we will begin developing our descriptive writing skills in more depth.
In Maths, we have continued our work on place value, focusing on recognising, representing and partitioning 3 and 4-digit numbers. The children have been working hard to explain their reasoning and deepen their understanding.
In Science, we have been learning how to identify, group and classify animals. The children have enjoyed sharing their knowledge and asking thoughtful questions during our lessons. In Art, the children have really enjoyed drawing 'broken buildings', and have added lots of finer details to their work.
We have also begun placing a greater emphasis on the quick recall of times tables. Regular practice of multiplication facts is an important part of our learning, and the children have made a positive start to improving their fluency and confidence.
