Final Weekly Blog - 23.7.21

Miss Johansson (L.Johansson) on: Oak Tree Class Blog 2020-2021

Hi there,

Well.. we did it! We made it to the end of the year! The children should be so proud of how hard they have worked and the wonderful progress that each of them have made. It has been an absolute pleasure to teach  Year 5 Oak for my final year at Rufford and I wish the children all the best for their Year 6 journeys.

We've still had a very busy final week. The children have been finishing off their 'Volume and Capacity' unit of work in maths. In English, they've been building upon key comprehension and grammar skills. It's been the perfect weather for P.E. and I am so impressed with how far the children have come on with their rounders skills.

The disco (on Wednesday) was a blast. It was great to see so many children together having fun, and such a great way to celebrate what has been quite a different year!

On Tuesday, the children took home a letter regarding applying for a secondary school place. It is really important for parents/carers to read this letter and prepare for the online application (which opens on August 1st). Click here to access the letter electronically.

I would like to say a huge thank to all of Oak Tree's parents/carers for their ongoing support throughout this year. I have really enjoyed getting to know all of you and your families and wish you all the best for the future.

It has been tough to say goodbye to Year 5 Oak today, but I know that they are so ready for a well-deserved break and for their new chapter to begin in September. They are definitely ready for the exciting challenges that Year 6 will bring and I know that they will all make lots of great progress.

Thank you again for the lovely gifts and cards that the children and parents/carers have so kindly given to me this week - I will really cherish the cards... and enjoy the gifts!

Best wishes. Stay safe and have a wonderful summer

Over and out.

Miss Johansson :)

Hello,

It's really hard to believe that there's only one more week left to go of this academic year - time has flown!

I have been so impressed with how hard the children have been working, even though they are coming to the end of their Year 5 journey.

In maths, they've learnt about volume of 3D shapes; in English they've planned and written beautiful letters to their new teachers. It's been a very busy time, but we were still able to squeeze a few rounders matches!

I am excited to celebrate and enjoy my last week at Rufford with Oak Tree, next week. Let's hope the sun keeps shining!

Stay safe and enjoy the weather :)

Hello,

It's scary how quick the weeks seem to pass by. I can't believe we've only 2 weeks left until the end of term!

We've had another great week in Oak Tree. We've spent a lot of time focussing on some key chapters in Darwin's Dragons, which the children have then turned into comic strips. I will share some pictures of these next week, once they are complete. In maths, we've been converting metric and imperial units of measure - the children have enjoyed thinking about when they use different types of measure in real life.

Sports Day was a blast on Thursday. Click  here for pictures!

And, as promised, click here for some pictures of last week's Summer Fun Day. A big thank you to FORP for organising such a brilliant event.

Have a great weekend and stay safe,

Miss Johansson

Hi there,

It's been a lovely, productive week in Oak Tree. It's hard to believe we've only got 3 weeks left of the term together!

In maths, the children have been converting between different units of measure, and they've enjoyed seeing the relationship between this area of maths and place value.

In English, they've been touching up on different areas of grammar and we've dedicated quite a bit of time to focus on our guided reading skills, whilst reading more of our wonderful novel, Darwin's Dragons.

Oak Tree have had a fantastic Summer Fun Day today,, too! Pictures to follow next week.

Have a great weekend! Let's hope for another win for England on Saturday night :)

Best wishes,

Miss Johansson

Hello,

It's been another lovely, sunny week in Oak Tree.

The children have worked extremely hard completing their end of year assessments. It has been great to see how much progress they have made since the start of Year 5. I am very proud of their determination and resilience they have shown during the tests.

In art, the children drew and painted some wonderful bumble bees, as we have been studying the famous scientist, Eva Crane. They took their time to include fine details and ensured the bees looked as life-like as possible. I am really impressed with how they turned out! Check them out below.

Have a good weekend and remember that Monday is a training day. I look forward to welcoming the children back on Tuesday.
