Beech Tree Blog

Weekly update-6/1/23

Mr Kyriacou (n.kyriacou) on: Beech Tree Blog

Hello everyone,

This week, in maths, we have been focusing on our 6 and 9x tables and developing strategies to support the children with their recall. We have also been focusing on the vocabulary involved with multiplication and division word problems.

6x table forwards and in reverse

In computing, we are focusing on digital literacy and this week we have been focusing on how digital devices work and looking at inputs, processes and outputs.

Bee Bots (inputs, processes and outputs)

Certain children also took part in Young Voices. They had a fantastic time and also represented the school brilliantly.

Take care,

Mr Kyriacou :)

Hello,

We've had an enjoyable last week in school. The children did their two performances for their carol concert and were super! We've done some lovely Christmas activities as well, like making Christmas cards, which I have to say, the children did a brilliant job with, they looked fantastic!

We hope you all have a safe and enjoyable Christmas :)

Take care,

Mr Kyriacou :)

Weekly Update-9/12/22

Mr Kyriacou (n.kyriacou) on: Beech Tree Blog

Hello,

This week, the children have been busy writing their formal letters to Caroline Lawrence (the author of our class novel) and they have edited them and typed them on the computer. They've done a great job and we will be choosing a few to send off to Caroline Lawrence. Hopefully, we'll get a lovely reply! Well done everyone!

We have also been going through their assessments, identifying a few weak areas, going through those questions together and using the necessary skills required in order to answer those questions as well as possible.

Our European artist that we have been focusing on this week is Salvador Dali. The focus of the lesson was for the children to create a portrait of their partner and insert a silly moustache (in any style they wanted) which relates to the moustache that Dali famously had and the different styles that he had it in.

We are also close to finishing out class novel, The Thieves of Ostia. The class are so eager to find out who the killer is now, but they'll have to wait until next week for the final part of the story when Caroline Lawrence will eventually reveal who the killer is and why they did it.

As part of our topic work, we were using Google Earth to identify human (man made) and physical (natural) geographical features that appear in Rome and comparing them to features found in Leeds.

In PSHE this week, we have been continuing our work on Valuing Differences, focusing on the story of The Ugly Duckling and the moral of the story.

Take care,

Mr Kyriacou :)
